Motorcycle Shock Service in Kempton Park
Your rear shock controls traction, stability and how the bike tracks through bumps. It works hard, runs hot and is often the most neglected part of the bike, because it’s tucked away and the fade happens slowly.
266 Suspension services rear shocks for MX, enduro, adventure and trail bikes at our workshop in Bonaero Park, Kempton Park, an easy trip from the East Rand, Johannesburg and Pretoria. When you bring your bike to 266, you deal with George Wright, who has 10 years of experience in suspension fine-tuning.

Signs your shock needs a service
- Oil on the shock body, spring or around the seal head
- The rear kicks or bucks over braking bumps and square edges
- The rear wallows, sits low or bottoms out easily
- Poor traction when you get on the gas out of corners
- The clickers feel like they do nothing
- More than 20 to 30 hours of riding since the last service
Why your shock needs regular servicing
Shock oil works in a small volume and gets very hot, so it breaks down faster than many riders expect. Dirt and worn-part particles in the oil then wear the seals and the expensive internals. Changing the fluid every 20 to 30 hours of riding keeps damping consistent and stops small wear turning into big repairs.
What we do
- Strip, clean and inspect your shock
- Rebuild it with fresh oil, replacing worn parts where needed
- Check the spring rate and sag against your weight
- Remove and refit the shock if you bring the whole bike in
Removing the shock: on some bikes it’s quick, on others it takes more work. WhatsApp us your make and model and we’ll tell you what’s involved.
Clean bikes only, please. Suspension internals are precision hydraulics with tiny ports and tight clearances. Bring your bike or parts in washed, or we’ll gladly give them a bath before they come into our suspension centre.

Shock service FAQ
How often should my shock be serviced?
We recommend a fluid change every 20 to 30 hours of riding, sooner if you race or ride in mud, sand and dust.
What does a shock service cost?
It depends on the shock, its condition and the parts it needs. WhatsApp us your bike details and we’ll give you a quote.
Can you check my spring rate while it’s in?
Yes. The wrong spring causes many handling problems. Tell us your weight and how you ride, and we’ll tell you whether your spring suits you. See re-valving and setup.
Should I do the forks too?
For the best balance, yes. Both ends wear at a similar rate. See our fork service.
Send your suspension from anywhere
You don’t have to be in Gauteng. Riders courier their forks and shocks to us from across South Africa and beyond. We’ve done work for clients in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Angola, the DRC, Eswatini and as far as Dubai. WhatsApp us first and we’ll arrange it with you.
